A Nationwide Medical Training Portal for Russian Ministry of Health
Over 2.5 million users
61 284 educational programs
Apps for iOS and Android
In 2019, the Russian Ministry of Health put the Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University in charge of modernizing the continuous education portal. The portal required significant updates and mobile applications for iOS and Android.
The former website used legacy technologies and only hosted training materials for medical professionals. The educational portal was simply not comfortable to use.
Using Jmix (ex-CUBA Platform) to rebuild the back end, Haulmont created a modern web tool for continuous education, with a unique algorithm for tailoring the available trainings according to the users’ skills, qualification, goals and individual experience.
Creating the Individual Approach to Education
The first thing that required modernization was the website user interface. One of the tasks was to create comfortable student’s and methodist’s accounts for managing the training courses. The created accounts, besides standard account features, include gamification: dashboards with graphs, charts and badges which display the training progress, achievements.
Another important implementation is the algorithm for creating individual training plans. The algorithm is based on a questionnaire and testing. The questionnaire is used to determine the interests and professional activity, and the testing is used to evaluate knowledge and skills. Considering this data, the system can identify typical knowledge gaps based on previous test answers on the portal and use it to assign mandatory and optional training programs corresponding to the individual’s training needs.
The training materials are provided by specialized organizations such as leading medical universities in Russia. The portal updates made it easier to create and place new programs, and also enabled interactive modules and integration with third-party educational platforms.
To support employers and health authorities, the portal has the reporting system. Along with other abilities, it shows statistics related to the overall training progress of different institutions or regions.
By the end of 2021, the portal is used by over 2.5 million specialists across the country and manages large numbers of users at any time. According to the users’ feedback, the portal became more efficient and comfortable to use.
